PRC's Programs

The Parent Resource Center team members know that everyone has the potential to strengthen their skills and without placing blame, we act as guides for the family, building on the strengths of the parents to transform their own lives and the lives of their children, through strength based teaching we help parents to identify and let go of negative and self defeating thinking, and expand upon their knowledge in a safe and nurturing environment.  At PRC we believe that parent education and support play a crucial part in the prevention of family violence. We offer 4 levels of support to families in York County to empower parents.

Level 1 Information/Referral and Resource:

We offer resources and information to families and professionals alike via telephone and or email correspondence.  Staying connected with the community and other service providers is crucial to our success and we refer hundreds of calls from families to appropriate agencies per year.  We offer parenting skill materials via mail, upon request.  We offer resources in the form of recycled clothing and children's items ongoing in our resource room at our Springvale location and we have formed a partnership with In a Pinch Non Food pantry, Don’t Shake Jake and the Biddeford Eagles that we have named For Many: … we can offer resources and clothing 4x per year at the Biddeford Eagles for those families that are not able to drive to the Springvale location.   We also have a literacy component to our Resource Programming:  we have a Parenting and Children’s Library and we are a Reading is Fundamental Book distribution site as well.   Our library contains an extensive list parenting support titles and books for children to borrow with characters that our children know and love that share information on “hard to handle” behaviors and changes in life that may be difficult for children to understand. Our RIF distributions allow us to offer up to 3 new books to each child  in the family that takes part in Level 2-4 *direct parent education programs.

Level 2 Parent Connection (PC) Support Groups:

PC is an opportunity for learning & sharing of ideas and information.  Parents are able to meet new people & discuss topics that all parents of pre-school children experience at one time or another. We offer a playgroup for children age 1 year or older to give them an opportunity to learn social skills, to be with other children their own age & have fun.

Level 3 Parenting Classes:

Practical Parenting Series (PPS) *fee based and Just for Dads * a Strong Fathers Network supported program- No fee~ We offer our support groups and  the 2 parenting classes in Biddeford and Springvale to allow a central location for parents throughout York County.

Level 4 Empowering Parent Programs:

One on One Parent Education:

Private parent education is offered to parents whether in home or site based.  This service is individualized and strength based with specific parents needs in mind most families in this program are referred to us by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. Families are either working to keep their family in tact or are working to reunify with their children.  This service is fee based and is $35 per hour~

Family Access Program:

We offer children and their parent a safe, pleasant, neutral environment to meet when access has been disrupted due to family conflict.  Supervised visitation and monitored transfers are available.  Experienced monitors record the party’s transactions and provide for the safety and well being of everyone involved. Parents are referred by the Family Court system and the order will determine which parent is responsible for payment. Supervised visitation is fee based at $35 per hour, f, $25 per hour for Semi-supervised visits, $5 each for exchanges.  There is a $100 intake fee  per family for Family Access services and each parent must attend an intake meeting prior to visitation being scheduled with children.
